Familiar to Bay Area Jazz audiences from his performances as leader or sideman at SFJazz’s Summer Series, San Jose Jazz Summer Fest, Monterey Jazz Festival, the Red Poppy Art House and other prestigious venues too numerous to list, Erik Jekabson is a trumpet player, composer and educator of true artistry and talent. He has toured with Illinois Jacquet, John Mayer, Galactic, and the Howard Fishman Quartet, and played while on the road at such notable venues as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Algonquin Room, Madison Square Garden and on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Late Night with David Letterman.
Erik has two CDs out under his own name: his most recent solo album “Crescent Boulevard”, released in 2010, and “Intersection”, which was recorded in New York in 2002. He has appeared as a sideman on over 25 other jazz recordings, as well as doing session work in many other genres of music and on movie and video game soundtracks.
Erik has a Bachelors Degree from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and a Master's Degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He currently teaches at the Jazzschool Institute, Chabot College, Cal State East Bay, and Los Medanos College, and is a regular instructor at Stanford Jazz Workshop and the Brubeck Institute among other programs.
