A mainstay on the Bay Area music scene for nearly two decades, San Jose saxophonist Kristen Strom is acclaimed for her beautifully crafted melodies, exceptional tonality and accomplished musicianship. Described as a "supremely versatile player" by San Jose Mercury News writer Andrew Gilbert, she is an integral part of some of the Bay Area's leading bands, as well as leading her own ensemble, the Kristen Strom Quartet. She has performed with many well-known artists, including Manhattan Transfer, Roberta Flack, Johnny Mathis, Jimmy Heath, Michel LeGrand, the Temptations, Natalie Cole and The Four Tops.
In addition to her solo album, Intention, Strom has recorded more than 25 CDs with various jazz and pop artists such as John Worley and Worlview, Burning Bridges, Tim Volpicella, Gail Dobson and the The Nuclear Whales Saxophone Orchestra. Kristen has also toured the US, Canada, Europe and Asia with the Nuclear Whales and other groups.
A respected educator, Strom is a saxophone instructor at Santa Clara University, on the faculty of Stanford Jazz Workshop and is the Education Consultant for the San Jose Jazz Society. She holds a B.A. in Music from San Jose State University.
