Born and raised in San Francisco, tenor/baritone saxophonist Fil Lorenz has been active on the Bay Area jazz scene since returning from military service in 1998. From touring the world as a member of the Glenn Miller Orchestra to performing with artists Seal, Gladys Knight, and Howard Tate, Lorenz draws from a wide range of musical experiences. In addition to leading his own big band as well as Hammond organ based group, The Fil Lorenz Soul-tet, you might hear him locally with Bay Area favorite John Worley’s Bari Bari project or in the saxophone section of the Marcus Shelby Orchestra.

As a saxophonist, Lorenz favors the broad-toned tenor sounds of Eddie “Lockjaw” Davis and Houston Person; baritone saxophonists Pepper Adams and Ronnie Cuber have provided a lifetime of inspiration.

To hear any of Lorenz’s groups guarantees an evening of honest heartfelt swing rooted in the spirit of the blues.
